APPLE'S IPHONE 4 TO GO ON SALE FROM MIDDAY

Wellington, July 30 NZPA - New Zealanders will be able to get their hands on Apple's iPhone 4 from midday, after many had their hopes dashed when the smartphone did not go on sale this morning as anticipated.

Prospective buyers queued outside stores around the country this morning, some since before dawn, but were told the phone was not available.

Vodafone spokesman Paul Brislen confirmed this morning the iPhone would be available at selected stores from midday.

Stocks were limited so the phone would only be available on account.

Prices for the 32GB model range from $179 on the most expensive monthly plan, to $799 on the cheapest.

Apple earlier this week kept prospective buyers in the dark as to where they would be able to buy the iPhone, confirming it would be available at selected retailers but refusing to name them.

The company was not immediately available for comment.
